Essay | Week 1: Thought On Media Use

If you are asking me for my opinion on media use, I would probably say that the usage of of the media in today is inevitable, we are literally living in a time where we can't go through a day without using the media. In my opinion, the usage of the media will mostly depend on the person's economy ability and stability. This is based on the fact that the people who live in a more developed countries will definitely have more usage percentage compared to the third world countries. The purpose of media today is mainly for information sharing and entertainment.

Most of the media form that people are using today are the television and the internet, this is because of the contents that the media are provided through this two medium. It bring so much benefits into our lives and as well as making our lives easier. People are constantly relying on the media because it can transfer information from one location to another in such an easy way and in a very short amount of time, with the media people can just connect to each other around the globe so much easier. For this reason I think media has really benefits us a lot and it just make our life much more informative but the message sent from the media could not be true all the time and this is one of the scariest power of the media. With a little twisted information the whole message or an incident can be interpret wrongly to the receiver and with this the media can be as deadly as a weapon. As a media student, I had been constantly been taught about how manipulative the media can be and for this reason I started to not relying 100% on one source of information so that I'll not be another victim of the media.

On the other hand, lets talk about how the society are using the media today, let's just start from the daily basis of a teenager. Almost everywhere I go I will see the teenagers with a handphone on on there hand and it's almost seem to be a part of their body that had attached to their hand, they will basically on the internet most of the time especially on the social networking site. They seems to be very interested in updating their life whenever possible and they want people to know about it. For this I think the media had make the privacy of the people today so much transparent and they don't even know how dangerous it is. Besides that, I think the younger people today had gone way too far with the usage of media. On the average they can spend at least 3-6 hour a day on the internet and this haven't include the other type of media, they are just constantly receiving the information blindly and don't leave time for themselves to create and for this I am worry that the future generation of ours will in trouble.

The statement that I had stated above may not be apply to every society in the world but that's the the information I can get from the society that I am currently living in. In my opinion, I think people should start to realize and reflect on how the use the media and decide what kind of information to be consume and what not. To solve this I think the education system should help our generation to understand better about the usage of media so that they can as well send this message to the other generation.

Trans-disciplinary
In practice, trans-disciplinary can be thought of as the union of all interdisciplinary efforts. While interdisciplinary teams may be creating new knowledge that lies between several existing disciplines, a trans-disciplinary team is more holistic and seeks to relate all disciplines into a coherent whole.

Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is a method of inquiry employed in many different academic disciplines, traditionally in the social sciences, but also in market research and further contexts. Qualitative researchers aim to gather an in-depth understanding of human behavior and the reasons that govern such behavior. The qualitative method investigates the why and how of decision making, not just what, where, when. Hence, smaller but focused samples are more often needed than large samples.
